- Participants should have basic sewing skills. Drop us an email to find out more about the requirements of this class if you have not taken a class with us before.
- Participants should send photographs of the garments they intend to alter, along with a description of the desired adjustments, at least one week prior to the commencement of the class.
This advance submission will allow for thorough review and adequate preparation for individual projects.
Beginner Apparel - Basic Alteration and Adjustments
Do you have pieces in your wardrobe that you absolutely love but don't fit quite right? Join our Basic Alteration and Adjustments where we'll teach you the essential alteration and modification techniques to tailor those pieces to your liking.
Bring your own garments and get hands-on experience with our expert instructors. Each piece is assessed individually, ensuring personalised advice and instruction tailored to your specific needs.
In this course you will learn skills to transform your ill-fitting finds into custom-fitted favourites.
Topics covered in the class include:
- Hemming - Shortening and extending
- Seam Adjustments - Taking in or letting out seams to improve the fit
- Reshaping - Techniques for altering the shape or style of a garment, such as changing a neckline or adjusting sleeve length.

Dart Manipulation - Adding or adjusting darts
At the end of the course, you will understand the process of altering a garment. With this set of basic skills, you will be empowered to make a variety of alterations and modifications to other ill-fitting garments in your wardrobe.
