Course Description

Always thought of sewing with a sewing machine but feel daunted by it? Join our Introduction to Sewing Machines and Taking Body Measurements to begin your sewing journey with us here at Sew Fun! This introductory class is comprised of two parts - (i) you will learn how to set up and operate a sewing machine and (ii) we will be taking a full set of body measurements for use in pattern drafting as well as pattern adjustment.

Topics covered in the class include:

  • Winding a bobbin
  • Threading the sewing machine
  • Needle up and down positioning
  • Stitch length adjustment
  • Understanding thread tension
  • Gauging different seam allowances using stitch guides and sewing aides
  • Sewing straight lines at common seam allowances
  • Turning corners
  • Securing of stitches
  • Taking body measurements for pattern drafting

By the end of this course, participants will have fulfilled the pre-requisite requirement needed to embark on any of our Foundation classes such as Foundation Bag Sewing, Foundation Parenthood and Foundation Apparel.

Course Fee

  • $80 includes measuring tape and body measurement chart. If you have signed up for our Foundation class, you will receive a toolkit and do not need to purchase this class separately.
